Our trekking adventure begins early in the morning. After crossing a suspension bridge, the trail ascends to a ridge overlooking the powerful currents of the Budhi Gandaki River, leading us to the village of Khorsaani. From here, the path becomes more challenging, navigating across a large rock slab and a stream. We move along a rugged trail that winds through dense patches of nettles and passes by vibrant tropical waterfalls. The route descends back to the riverbank before rising sharply on a rocky incline. We begin our day in the early hours, around 4 a.m., anticipating a long and demanding trek ahead. Starting this early helps us avoid the powerful winds that often pick up intensity past midday, especially near the pass. The trail leads us on a steady ascent along a moraine ridge, eventually dipping briefly to a glacial lake. From here, we push upward once more, crossing the moraine at approximately 4700 meters to reach the ridgeline.
Below, four icy lakes shimmer in the morning light, while above, the path continues climbing toward the Larkya La Pass, topping out at 5100 meters. Though the trek is physically grueling, the panoramic reward is stunning — sweeping views to the west reveal Himlung Himal, Kang Guru, and Annapurna II, all framed by the mighty presence of Manaslu.
The descent from the pass is steep and unrelenting, dropping nearly 650 meters in under an hour. Eventually, the path eases as we enter open yak pastures, signaling our arrival at Bimtang (3590m), a traditional cluster of seasonal herder shelters known as kharkas.
